An easy test can help you get an indication of how healthy your heart and blood circulation are – and all you need is a large bowl or basin, cold water and some ice cubes
Keeping your heart in good working order is vital to maintaining a healthy life but it can be difficult to know what’s going on in there.
To help you get an idea of how your ticker is doing, Bright Side has revealed a simple trick to show you how to check on your heart’s health – and it only takes 30 seconds.
First up, you need to find a bowl or basin that is big enough to fully submerge both of your hands in, and fill it with really cold water, adding a few handfuls of ice cubes to improve results.
Place both of your hands fully under the water for exactly 30 seconds – don’t be tempted to go over or under the time as it will help you know how your body responds when it’s forced to deal with the cold.
Bright Side says there are two possible outcomes when you look at your hands after removing them from the water when the time has expired.
The first is to see that your fingers have gone red in colour, which is good news.
This result means you likely have no problems related to the oxygenation of your blood, and indicates that your heart and blood circulation are both healthy.
If, instead, your fingertips appear pale or have a bluish colouring, this can hint at blood circulation problems.
It occurs when your red blood cells have low oxygen levels.
