The big green clean: 10 eco-friendly cleaning brands to swap to

Eco-friendly cleaning is one of 2019’s biggest green trends. While we’ve all realised the chemicals in our food and in our skincare, probably aren’t doing us any good, run of the mill, chemical packed cleaning products are often forgotten, as we spritz, spray and disinfect our homes.

Fortunately there are cleaning brands out there who care about the environment and our holistic health: brands who don’t test on animals, don’t include microplastics or microbeads. While you might not find them in the supermarkets, they’re worth an investigation.

Janey Lee Grace road-tests some of the best eco-friendly, chemical free and natural cleaning products for your home and your laundry.

Whether you’re looking for something chemical free, vegan or not tested on animals, or whether it’s something that uses less plastic, I’ve compiled some of my favourite natural cleaning products that sit under my sink.

That’s not to say you can’t make your own DIY cleaning products, which are even more chemical and plastic free, watch out for some suggestions on pebble soon. But if time is of the essence, order these online and get to work.

Nearly everyone has heard of Ecover, for many years they have been leading the way with affordable cleaning and laundry products that don’t pose a threat to the planet.

Ecover say: “Plastic is one of the biggest threats to the biodiversity of our oceans. With fish ingesting more and more plastic each year, it also has an impact on our health. We want to make it easier for people to help create healthy, happier oceans. That’s why we’ve created a limited edition washing-up liquid bottle with reclaimed plastic from the ocean.”

The brand has a wide range of washing up, dishwasher and laundry detergent products most of which are available in supermarkets as well as online outlets and a major USP is that you can refill their washing up liquids, laundry liquids and the all purpose cleaners at their ‘refill stations’ while the bottles can be used over 50 times.

Method is safe to use around pets and on surfaces with which your animal may come in contact.
